Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 8:33 PM EDT on August 27, 2008 |
... Flash Flood Watch now in effect until 4 am EDT Thursday...
The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for
* portions of North Carolina and Virginia... including the following areas... in North Carolina... Alleghany NC... Ashe... Rockingham... Stokes... Surry... Watauga... Wilkes and Yadkin. In Virginia... Amherst... Bedford... Botetourt... Campbell... Carroll... Floyd... Franklin... Grayson... Henry... Patrick... Pittsylvania... Roanoke and Rockbridge.
* Until 4 am EDT Thursday
* showers of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected to bring another half an inch to an inch of rain across the area. Locally heavier amounts are possible on southeast slopes of the Blue Ridge. Parts of the watch area have already had 5 to 10 inches of rain since Tuesday... so any additional rainfall may easily cause flash flooding.
* There is a chance of additional excessive rainfall. If this occurs... more rapid rises on creeks and streams can be expected.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
