Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 9:09 PM EDT on September 5, 2008 |
... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from 2 am EDT Saturday through Saturday evening...
The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* portions of north central North Carolina and Virginia... including the following areas... in north central North Carolina... Caswell and Rockingham. In Virginia... Amherst... Appomattox... Buckingham... Campbell... Charlotte... Halifax and Pittsylvania.
* From 2 am EDT Saturday through Saturday evening
* periods of heavy rain are expected across the area late tonight into Saturday. With the current forecast track and speed of Hanna... the heaviest rain will likely occur late tonight into Saturday morning. At this time... 2 to 4 inches of rain appears likely. With a slower or more westward track... even heavier amounts are possible. Flash flood guidance indicates that 3 to 4 inches of rain in less than 6 hours may begin to cause flood problems.
* With periods of heavy rain developing overnight... creeks and streams will likely be rising toward morning. Periods of torrential rain are possible in tropical rain bands. If this occurs after creeks and streams are rising... flash flooding would occur quickly.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
