The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued an

* Arroyo and small stream flood advisory for heavy rain...
western Sierra County in south central New Mexico...
northeastern Grant County in southwest New Mexico...

* until 345 PM MDT

* at 147 PM MDT thunderstorms with radar estimated rainfall at over
an inch per hour... were tracking southeast around 9 mph
through portions of eastern Grant and western Sierra counties.
With the locally heavy rainfall and slow movement to these
storms... flooding of area rivers... streams and arroyos is
likely... even some distance from the storm.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across
flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of
swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
