    MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING...
... HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM EDT
    WEDNESDAY FROM CAPE HATTERAS NORTH...

    350 am EDT Mon may 12 2008

... Coastal flood advisory in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to
5 PM EDT Tuesday for all of the Outer Banks...
... High surf advisory in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to 5 PM
EDT Wednesday for the Outer Banks from Cape Hatteras north...

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a high surf advisory... which is in effect from 5 PM this
afternoon to 5 PM EDT Wednesday. A coastal flood advisory has
also been issued. This coastal flood advisory is in effect from
5 PM this afternoon to 5 PM EDT Tuesday.

Developing low pressure off the Delmarva coast this morning will
move slowly east through Tuesday. The low will produce strong
northwest to north winds along the North Carolina coast late today
and tonight. The strong winds will lead to high water levels along
the east side of Pamlico Sound which will produce minor sound side
flooding along the Outer Banks south of Rodanthe tonight and
Tuesday. Water levels of 2 to 3 feet above normal adjacent to the
sound can be expected from south of Rodanthe to Ocracoke.

Along the ocean front... a large back swell with seas 10 to 12 feet
associated with the low will begin to impact the Outer Banks
tonight continuing through Tuesday. The high surf will produce
minor beach erosion and ocean overwash... especially around times
of high tide. High tide this afternoon will be around 230 PM and
around 3 am tonight. There is potential for more significant
coastal flooding tonight due to the large northeast swell.
Residents along the Outer Banks should monitor this situation
closely should the flood advisory be upgraded to a coastal Flood
    Warning later today.

Breaking waves of 10 to 13 feet tonight through Wednesday will
lead to minor beach erosion and dangerous surf conditions along
the Outer Banks from Cape Hatteras north.

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
    erosion.

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate minor flooding of low areas along the
    shore.

... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to
    6 am EDT Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City has issued
a Wind Advisory... which is in effect from 4 PM today to 6 am EDT
    Tuesday.

Developing low pressure off the Delmarva coast today will move
slowly east through Tuesday. The low will produce strong
northwesterly winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph possible
beginning late this afternoon and continuing tonight.

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph with
gusts of 46 to 57 mph are expected. Winds this strong are capable
of causing power outages. Driving can also be
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Loose objects
    can be blown around.
