Lakeshore Flood Statement
Statement as of 3:47 PM EDT on September 4, 2008 |
Northeast winds will increase to 15 to 20 knots on Eastern Lake Superior after midnight... building waves back up to 6 feet. This will result in the moderate risk of rip currents. Look for the risk to lower Friday afternoon as winds and waves subside.
With a moderate risk of rip currents... it is recommended only experienced swimmers should enter the water. Rip currents are strong... narrow channels of water that flow away from the beach. If caught in a rip current... swim parallel to the shore until out of the current... then swim back to the shore.
