Tropical Storm Hanna will approach from the S today and move through E North Carolina after midnight tonight into early Sat morning. Hanna will move rapidly NE out of the area during the day Sat. A weak cold front will move in from the W sun and become stnry...then dissipate Mon. Another cold front will approach from the NW on Tue.

The center of Tropical Storm Hanna is now about 540 miles south of Wilmington. A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch remain in effect for eastern North Carolina coastal waters. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area within the next 24 hours. A Hurricane Watch warning means that hurricane conditions are possible within the next 36 hours.

Boat owners should take action now to secure their boats. If out on the open water... make way to seek safe Harbor. Be especially cautious near inlet entrances where the incoming swell could become steep when the tide is falling.

A 2 to 4 foot storm surge is possible on Friday night continuing into Saturday morning as Hanna moves across the area. Coastal flooding will be greatest around the times of high tide around midnight Friday night and around noon on Saturday. The areas expected to see the highest impact are south facing beaches... and also along the banks of the Neuse and Pamlico rivers.

Sustained tropical storm force winds are expected to spread north through the region through Friday evening. These winds are expected to end from south to north during the day on Saturday. The strongest winds will occur late Friday night continuing through Saturday morning in the 35 to 45 kt range with gusts to 55 kt.
