Bristol RI... eastern Kent RI... Newport RI... northwest Providence RI... southeast Providence RI... Washington RI and western Kent RI.
* From 2 am EDT Saturday through Sunday morning
* tropical moisture associated with Hanna will bring periods of heavy rain during this weekend... which could produce flash flooding. The first round of significant rainfall is expected to occur late tonight into early Saturday morning... well ahead of Hanna. A second round of heavy rain is anticipated Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning as Hanna approaches and moves across the area. Over the course of this weekend a widespread 3 to 6 inches of rain is forecast in the watch area... with scattered 8 inch totals.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Much of this rain is expected to fall during the nighttime. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flash floods.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway.
For safetys sake... stay away from streams and openings to drainage pipes. Swiftly moving waters can quickly pull a person under water... creating a life threatening situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
