... High surf advisory in effect from 5 am Friday to 8 am EDT
Saturday...
... High risk of rip currents through the first half of the
weekend...
... Fringe effects from tropical cyclone Hanna to impact the area
Friday and Friday night...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

Currently... high pressure is anchored north of the area over the
Carolinas while Tropical Storm Hanna advances northward.
The placement of these features will lead to a tight onshore
gradient. Sustained easterly winds of 15 to 20 mph with occasional
gusts nearing 25 mph are expected by early Friday... increasing to
20 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph along the immediate beaches by
mid morning and persisting through the day on Friday.

Surf threat... breakers of 4 to 6 feet are expected at area beaches
through this evening ... with the largest surf initially along the
northeast Florida coast. Breakers will increase on Friday morning
to 5 to 7 feet with occasional 8 foot breakers possible as the
storm reaches its closest point and quickly advances up the coast.

Rip current threat... a high risk of rip currents is expected at
area beaches through Friday. A high risk of rip currents means
wind and/or wave conditions enhance dangerous rip currents. Rip
currents are life-threatening to anyone entering the surf.

Coastal flood threat... tides are currently running between a half
of a foot to a foot above normal and minor coastal flooding will
be possible around times of high tide.

Beach erosion threat... due to the large wave action... minor to
moderate beach erosion will take place around times of high tide.

The next high tides at selected locations... St Simons Island...
1229 am tonight. Fernandina Beach... 100 am tonight.
Mayport... 1246 am tonight. St Augustine beach... 1209 am tonight.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio... commercial radio or television
stations for any updates or warnings. For additional
information... visit the National Weather Service in Jacksonville
website on the internet at www.Srh.NOAA.Gov/jax.

... Wind Advisory in effect from 5 am Friday to 8 am EDT
Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 5 am Friday to 8 am EDT
Saturday.

Northeast winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph
along the coastal counties of northeast Florida and southeast
Georgia late tonight. The winds will then veer to the north at 25
to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph Friday morning then northwest Friday
afternoon. West winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph Friday
evening will slowly diminish late Friday night. Winds will be
strongest when accompanied by Tropical Storm Hanna rainbands and
along the immediate Atlantic coast including the St Johns River
shoreline and other inland waterways.

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 25 to 39 mph
are expected for at least an hour... with gusts of 40 to 57 mph or
greater at any time.

Minor damage to trees... power lines... and property are possible
with wind of this magnitude.

Motorists in high profiles vehicles are advised to use caution
until the wind subsides.

Strong winds can topple trees... blow weakened roofs off houses...
and down power lines. Take precautions to secure trash cans...
lawn furniture... and any other loose outdoor objects.

Persons in the advisory area should keep abreast of the latest
weather.
