Statement as of 4:40 PM PDT on August 28, 2008

... Well above normal temperatures expected through Saturday
across the central California interior...

Strong high pressure will continue across central California
through Saturday. High temperatures will be some 10 degrees above
normal... but will stay a few degrees below record levels. Friday
will be the warmest day... with highs between 103 and 109 degrees
in the central and southern San Joaquin Valley and the Kern
County desert. Highs of 100 to 105 are likely in the foothills of
the southern Sierra Nevada including Yosemite
Valley... Oakhurst... Kings Canyon... and Lake Isabella.

In addition nighttime temperatures be in the mid 70s in the urban
areas of Fresno and Bakersfield Thursday and Friday nights. A slow
cooling trend is then expected for the remainder of the Holiday
weekend.

During periods of above normal heat... it is a good idea to check
on your elderly family and neighbors. People most sensitive to
the heat include children... elderly... and people with chronic
illness. Listen to NOAA Weather Radio... or your favorite news
source... for updates on this situation.
